An absolute party favorite. The one dish I serve over and over again that receives the most compliments, and never has leftovers.
Easy to make, and easy to devour! Perfect appetizer/ starter for any dinner party!
Sweet and Sour Meatballs
Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:
2lbs ground beef or turkey
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Breadcrumbs or Matzo meal (Approximately 1/2 - 1 cup)
For the Sauce
8oz tomato sauce (the key is to use canned sauce- not from a jar)
1 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon vinegar
1/2 tablespoon sour salt (if you can't find sour salt, you can substitute for extra lemon juice)
2 tablespoons lemon
Directions
Add ground meat, eggs (beaten), salt and pepper to a bowl and mix with hands. Slowly add breadcrumbs to the same bowl, and mix with hands. Keep adding breadcrumbs until you reach a consistency that is to your liking.
Roll the meat into 1/2 inch diameter balls, and put onto a plate
Add the tomato sauce, sugar, vinegar, sour salt and lemon juice into a pot (dutch oven preferred but any large pot or saucepan will do) and bring to a boil.
When the sauce begins to boil, add the meatballs, and turn down the heat of a sauce to a simmer
Simmer for about one hour, or until meatballs are completely cooked through
Meatballs can be served right away, though for best taste, refrigerate overnight in the sauce, and serve the next day.
Best served on toothpicks!
