Challah French Toast

About the Recipe


  • 6 Eggs

  • 1 1/2 cups milk

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • Butter

  • Thick sliced bread (challah works best)

  • Fruit and syrup for serving


  1. In a large shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla and salt.

  2. Slice the challah in 3/4-inch thick slices.

  3. Soak as many slices in the egg mixture as possible for 5 minutes, turning once.

  4. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a very large saute pan over medium heat, or on a griddle.

  5. Add the soaked bread to pan/ griddle and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until nicely browned.

  6.  Serve hot with maple syrup, raspberry preserves, and/or confectioners' sugar.
